Mentions: Figure 1 shows the trends in SIRs after diagnosis of first primary cancers of all sites. We calculated tentative SIRs after excluding second primary cancers diagnosed within less than 3 months of the first primary cancer, because these were more likely to be diagnosed as a result of detection bias. Results both including and excluding these cancers are shown in Figure 1. The SIRs were high in the first year, decreased in the second year, continued to increase after the second year and were relatively high in approximately 10 years, and then decreased after 20 years. When we excluded second primary cancers within less than 3 months of the first primary cancer, the SIR for the first year was low.
