ABSTRACT
TORNWALDT (THORNWALDT) CYST A congenital, midline, epithelial lined cyst in the nasopharynx (parapharyngeal mucosal space - PMS) arising from ingrowth of notochord, seen in 4% of all autopsies. Related to notochordal AND epithelial interaction. Midline, between the prevertebral mm. in the pharyngeal raphe, mm to cm in size. Hyperintense to hypointense on T1W depending on protein content. ============================ NOTE: Dr. Tornwald spelled his own name without the "h". However, the published literature uses both "Tornwaldt" and "Thornwaldt". No MeSH data available. |
