ABSTRACT

Diagnosis: Combat related eye injury

History: This 35 y.o. man was near a vehicle explosion and was not wearing protective eye gear.

Findings: Penetrating fragments and air noted in the right globe. The left globe is not well identified, with a central area of increased attenuation and evidence of penetrating fragments and air in and around the orbit.

Ddx: Trauma

Dxhow: CT and surgical exploration and repair

Exam: No identifiable structures seen on examination of the Left eye in the emergency department. Severe injury noted to Right eye suggesting rupture, with associated eyelid lacerations.
