ABSTRACT

Diagnosis: Ulcerative Colitis

History: Patient presents with clinical manifestations of active and previously known inflammatory bowel disease.

Findings: F18 FDG PET-CT showed continuous large bowel and rectum uptake that extends continuously to the mid transverse colon. The activity is circumferential and superficial within the involved bowel and correspinds to thickened and edematous bowel on simultaenously-acquired CT imaging.

Ddx: Infectious Colitis Ischemic Colits Crohn's Disease Lymphoma

Dxhow: Characteristic Imaging Findings Previous Endoscopically-Performed Biopsy

No MeSH data available.

Selected noncontrast axial CT images that were simultaneously acquired along with the PET scan show within the corresponding mid to distal large bowel the following findings: diffuse bowel wall thickening and edema, pericolonic inflammation, and numerous small pericolonic/mesenteric reactive lymph nodes. Notice the circumferential involvement of the rectum at the bottom of the second image.
