ABSTRACT

Diagnosis: Enteric duplication cyst

History: 2 week old female who was found to have an abnormal cyst in the abdomen on prenatal ultrasound presents for postnatal evaluation.

Findings: Grayscale and color doppler ultrasound demonstrates a 2.8 x 2.7 x 1.7 cm thick walled cyst in the right lower quadrant which is not contiguous with the right ovary or the right kidney.

Ddx: Enteric duplication cyst Meckel's diverticulum Mesenteric cyst

Dxhow: Surgical removal and pathologic evaluation

Exam: Non-contributory

A longitudinal image demonstrates a unilocular cyst in the right lower quadrant.  The walls have a characteristic ultrasound appearance similar to bowel wall, with an echogenic inner lining representing the mucosa and the surrounding hypoechoic rim, representing the muscular wall.  Swirling internal echoes are seen.
