Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (Usual Interstitial Pneumonia)

Bayly TB - MedPix (2010)

View Article: MedPix Image - MedPix Case

Affiliation: Uniformed Services University

ABSTRACT

Diagnosis: Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (Usual Interstitial Pneumonia)

History: 60 pack year history of tobacco use

Findings: CT Scan: Severe emphysematous and bullous changes of the upper lobes. Peripheral honeycombing and marked interstitial thickening is noted at more inferior levels. (Unfortunately, axial images at the lung bases demonstrating the marked apicobasal gradient of interstitial and subpleural findings was not submitted with this case).

Ddx: Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (Usual Interstitial Pneumonia) Nonspecific Interstitial Pneumonia Other Interstitial Pneumonias Collagen Vascular Dz Asbestosis Radiation/Drug Toxicity

Dxhow: Biopsy

No MeSH data available.

Increased reticular opacities and fibrosis coalescing into a characteristic "honeycomb" appearance at the lung periphery. Typically, this is observed predominantly in the lower lobes (image of the lung bases not submitted).
