Schematic diagram.  Leptomeningeal (pia and arachnoid) enhancement may be caused by infectious, chemical, or neoplastic "meningitis".  This enhancement is along the surface of the brain, along nerve roots, and may appear to fill the subarachnoid space and cisterns (e.g. suprasellar cistern).
