ABSTRACT

Diagnosis: Assessing Anemia on Thoracic CT

History: Patient 1: 42 yo female undergoing routine chest CT for pulmonary nodule follow-up. Patient 2: 65 yo male undergoing routine chest CT for pulmonary nodule follow-up.

Findings: Patient 1: Unenhanced axial CT image at the level of the left ventricle demonstrates visualization of the interventricular septum. The CT attenuation of blood in the lumen of the left ventricle measures 31 HU, suggesting anemia. Patient 2: Unenhanced axial CT image at the level of the left ventricle demonstrates visualization of the interventricular septum. The CT attenuation of blood in the lumen of the left ventricle measures 34 HU, suggesting anemia.

Ddx: Anemia

Dxhow: Patient 1: Correlating the CT finding with the patient’s serum hemoglobin and hematocrit levels revealed 9.8 g/dL and 29.6% respectively, confirming the diagnosis of anemia. Patient 2: Correlating the CT finding with the patient’s serum hemoglobin and hematocrit levels revealed 10.1 g/dL and 29.7% respectively, confirming the diagnosis of anemia.

No MeSH data available.

Patient 2: Unenhanced axial CT image at the level of the left ventricle demonstrates visualization of the interventricular septum. The CT attenuation of blood in the lumen of the left ventricle measures 34 HU, suggesting anemia.
