ABSTRACT

Simone Veil, ministre de la sante (minister of health), is meeting with Donald S. Fredrickson, director-designate of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Guy R. Newell, deputy director of the National Cancer Institute (NCI), Jean-Francʹois Lacronique, scientific attache for medical affairs (French embassy), Laurence Wyatt, special assistant to the secretary for international affairs at the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (DHEW), Dr. Fisher, Office of International Health, DHEW, Phillipe Laudat, scientific director of INSERM in Paris, Michael Boiron, director of Minister Veil's personal staff, Jacques Kosciusko-Morizet, French ambassador, and Casper Weinberger, secretary of DHEW. They are sitting in a semi- circle. A coffee table is in front of Mme. Veil with a book, an ashtray, a container for cigarette disposal, and a stack of newspapers; the one on top is the San Francisco examiner. A round table with drawer handles is holding plaques, a fine dish, and a statue. The clock on the wall reads 5:13. There are two doorways. They are divided by a protruding bookcase with a flag at the open end. There is a partial view of a door on one wall that has three pictures. The adjacent wall has plaques and pictures.
